Steel and Concrete: Design, Structure, and Construction


Architectural case studies are used to examine conceptual development, structural design, building process and the selection of structural steel and concrete systems.  

Students will learn how to examine the strengths and weaknesses of material selection at the conceptual development phase.  

As well, students will learn how to use both rules of thumb and the basic principles of structural engineering to make choices about using steel and concrete materials in an Architectural design.  

Structural analysis of steel and concrete members will include compression, tension, and bending as well as connections, using calculations and the latest CSA design standards.
