Project Description: When one hears the word “time” being brought up in any science fiction film, the concept of time travel is typically suggested. However, a lot of these movies go beyond playing with the idea of manipulating timelines and travelling back and forth between past, present, and future, using futuristic technologies like time travel machines and teleporters. Rather, they present time as a cyclical entity with different levels of complexity using these conventions. The drawing aims to highlight the concept of time as depicted in the science fiction genre, along with its multiple abstract layers. Time in this project is portrayed on the basic mind frame of human evolution and expands beyond this frame to show that time is experienced seasonally, architecturally, temporally, and historically. There is no real definite understanding of time, but we do experience its complexities. The singular break in the strip represents the rift explored in Kubrick’s film, playing with orientation to portray a different dimension of time and space. Besides this break, although the drawing is meant to be read from left to right, there is no boundary on the paper separating beginning to end. Hence, if printed out, this drawing could be connected to form a cyclical band resembling a Mobius strip.
