A.A.A.

AAA is bounded by some of Rome’s most historical landmarks, most notably the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill. The proposed museum considers the richness of its context, appearing as a simple floating volume with blank travertine facades. Inside, permanent exhibits (including the Torlonia Collection’s 109 busts, a series of anastylosis artifacts, and the Plastico di Roma) are particularly curated to give visitors unique spatial experiences of the collections. Similar to the approach of the exterior, the interior of the museum distills itself to put the emphasis on the historical artifacts it contains. This austerity is contrasted by the space it hovers over; a new public space is created on the ground plane, serviced by single-program buildings that camouflage as ruins, and a commercial space that frames a piazza. Two armatures reach across the wide streets to link and create access to and through the site from the surrounding landmarks. The remainder of the site exists as a public park that opens up and looks outward.
