The act of protesting or demonstrating is fraught with tension and symbolism. It is the method in which the disenfranchised masses leveled themselves with the hegemonic powers of the state. It’s where hundreds upon thousands of individual voices become stimulated and magnified by the gathering of voices around them, all passionately unified under a single cause. This unique environment is powerful and compelling but also unequivocally angry and dangerous. Union Square Park, where this project is located, has historically been an important place for protests in New York City and continues to act as a main space for protests to-day. This project attempts to illuminate this unique space of protest through creating an aural environment layered with sounds of riots, demonstrations, rallies both from Union Square Park as well as broadcast key demonstrations from around the world in attempts to give visitors a chance to immerse themselves into the most potent issues plaguing the population at any given time.
