In 2009, the City of Toronto launched its first Open Data Portal to meet the growing demand for open data. In this context, the data from the city refers to machine-readable data such as CSV, JSON, shapefiles and APIs. Along with sources like Open Street Map and Social Media platforms, we can generate a virtual snapshot of the city. This increasing availability of data is fundamentally changing what constitutes space and thus altering how we understand architectural site factors.

Therefore, this thesis examines spatial data for architecture and the social-technical background that created the data.  The thesis builds upon architectural domain knowledge on identifying relevant site data and applies data manipulation techniques and data analysis algorithms from the realm of spatial data science. By considers the process of site analysis as a data science process, this research focuses on developing a set of computational approaches for illustrating and analyzing the architectural site.
